In January 2023 there were 6,565 coal-fired power plants operating around the world.
Incredibly, there are also further 374 coal power stations currently under construction, 8 years after the 2015 UN Paris Climate Agreement! Many of these are in the developing countries of the Asia Pacific Region (as shown below.)
There has never been a more important time to support the transition from fossil fuels to renewables. High-integrity carbon credits are one mechanism to facilitate much‑needed finance, helping decarbonise developing countries and ending the construction of coal fired power plants.
